Bordeaux walking tour

From 13€ / pers

Discover the historic city centre with a knowledgeable guide. This 2 hour guided walking tour includes some of the city’s most remarkable 18th century architecture, as well as the highlights of the UNESCO World Heritage area.

  • old district
  • main sights

Discovering Bordeaux on foot is the best way to experience the city’s diversity. The ‘City of The Lumières’, drawn up with a compass by 18th century architects and town planners, is synonymous with harmony: hôtels particuliers, beautiful squares and avenues are spread all along this route that takes you through picturesque areas like Saint Rémi and Saint Pierre quarters.

Some of the winding streetshave not changed since the Middle Ages. “Blondstone” is present everywhere, including in the sculpted faces that sit atop the city centre doorways, the mascarons. These stand as remarkable examples of art and masonry.

We'd booked a morning tour on Monday, and there were tech issues - earphones/mics etc not working for most of the group. The guide seemed confused and unable to manage. They tried to conduct the tour without a mic and it was impossible to follow. We then requested to move our slot to the next morning, which the tourism office helped us to do. The next days tour was better but quite average. It's conducted simultaneously in English and French - and the guide skipped over quite a few parts when moving between languages.

Difficult in Two Languages
Bryony Penman 07/21/2024
Our tour guide was great - she was informative, purposeful and her English was excellent. We got a good sense of the history of the centre of Bordeaux. However, delivering the tour in both French and English is inevitably a compromise. In effect you are getting a one hour tour delivered over two hours and spending the other hour waiting for a return to your language. It would surely be better to group the tours by single language, even if it meant delivering fewer of them?
