Guided tour

Bordeaux walking tour

From 13€ / pers

Discover the historic city centre with a knowledgeable guide. This 2 hour guided walking tour includes some of the city’s most remarkable 18th century architecture, as well as the highlights of the UNESCO World Heritage area.

  • guided tour
  • old district
  • main sights

Discovering Bordeaux on foot is the best way to experience the city’s diversity. The ‘City of The Lumières’, drawn up with a compass by 18th century architects and town planners, is synonymous with harmony: hôtels particuliers, beautiful squares and avenues are spread all along this route that takes you through picturesque areas like Saint Rémi and Saint Pierre quarters.

Some of the winding streetshave not changed since the Middle Ages. “Blondstone” is present everywhere, including in the sculpted faces that sit atop the city centre doorways, the mascarons. These stand as remarkable examples of art and masonry.

Bordeaux Walking Tour
Carlos Lopes Tenreiro 06/13/2025
Very disappointing. The english knowledge of pir guide was limited. The guide was German and she struggled to find the right words in english. Very limited knowledge about Bordeaux history, could not express herself well and could hardly answer any questions asked.

Answer from Mr. l'Office de Tourisme et des Congrès de Bordeaux Métropole

Dear Carlos, It is with regret that we read your review. We have noticed your feedback about the visit and thank you for it. In a quality concern, we sent your impressions to the guide to improve the quality of this tour in the future. Best regards.

Couldn't hear a thing!
Chris H 06/12/2025
We were really looking forward to this walking tour, but unfortunately, it fell short of expectations. Our guide seemed knowledgeable and kind, but she was so soft-spoken that most of the group could barely hear her. She often stopped in noisy or crowded spots—next to a tram, or near other large groups—which made it even harder to follow along. She also answered individual questions without repeating the information for the rest of us, which left much of the group out of the loop. As we passed another French-speaking Bordeaux walking tour, we noticed how much more engaging and audible their guide was—it really highlighted the contrast. Our tour ended up running 30 minutes over the scheduled two hours, and we still didn’t feel like we gained a clear sense of the city or its history. For a paid tour, we expected a more professional and engaging experience. This might be more understandable on a free tour, but paying guests deserve guides who are well-vetted and trained to engage with a group effectively. Overall, it was a disappointing experience.

Très intéressant
FRANCOIS GAGNON 06/09/2025
Le guide connaît son histoire, et le rend très bien. Beaucoup de détails intéressants sur l’aspect commercial de Bordeaux qui était une plaque tournantes du sucre aussi. Traiteur des fourrures du Canada. Je recommande sans hésiter.

A great way to get to know Bordeaux
Frederick Tuite 05/26/2025
Our tour was with Alcide who was very knowledgeable about Bordeaux, its history and its culture. He kept the tour lively and interesting alternating between English and French. I could understand the French so I can vouch for his translation and he balanced the two languages very well. We got a good idea of the part of the city he brought us to and had great stories to humanise the city and its people. We really enjoyed it and would highly recommend it.
