Guided tour

Bordeaux walking tour

From 13€ / pers

Discover the historic city centre with a knowledgeable guide. This 2 hour guided walking tour includes some of the city’s most remarkable 18th century architecture, as well as the highlights of the UNESCO World Heritage area.

  • guided tour
  • old district
  • main sights

Discovering Bordeaux on foot is the best way to experience the city’s diversity. The ‘City of The Lumières’, drawn up with a compass by 18th century architects and town planners, is synonymous with harmony: hôtels particuliers, beautiful squares and avenues are spread all along this route that takes you through picturesque areas like Saint Rémi and Saint Pierre quarters.

Some of the winding streetshave not changed since the Middle Ages. “Blondstone” is present everywhere, including in the sculpted faces that sit atop the city centre doorways, the mascarons. These stand as remarkable examples of art and masonry.

Fairly good

When we arrived, we were greeted by quite a grumpy woman behind the counter. She pointed to where we should stand. A man then shouted to follow him & a group of about 16 people followed him. It was only accross two roads later that he turned around & waved his hands dismissively. He had a private group but hadn’t said that. So about 10 of us had to go back to the office. Then our tour guide turned up. We were a huge group & she struggled getting everyone sorted with headphones. The two staff at the tourist information were not helping in the slightest, very rude & told us to move from where we’d been told to stand. Totally unacceptable. Why did they not help her. They had nothing else to do!!!! It was pouting with rain & our headsets did not work all the time. The ear-pieces were dreadful. Really hurt our ears. Very cheap. Only one side of mine worked. The tour itself was ok & our guide was good. However, it wasn’t very exciting & I have done much better ones in different cities. Not sure worth the money…

Unbelievably boring
Wendy Jane Jones 03/02/2024
I purchased a 2-hour tour to "discover the historic city centre". I understand this to mean a walk from one sight to the next with an explanation of each. After more than 1 1/2 hours, we had progressed as far as the Place de la Bourse, which is not even a quarter of the distance, due purely to the fact that the guide went on interminably about uninteresting aspects or topics totally unrelated to the "historic city centre".. By all means point out the architectural differences between the balcony design on 17th century buildings compared to 18th century buildings, but don't spend ages on the subject! By all means point out that the trams are powered from below, so no overhead lines, but don't go on and on about it while everybody stands around on the street doing nothing! And, above all, don't spend nearly half an hour on the banks of the Garonne with the map unfolded pointing out other sights on the other side of the river that people might be interested in - that is the job of the agents at the tourist office. At this point, I was so fed up, I left the tour and did the rest of the sights on my own. I have no idea how far the other guests got, because there is no way they could have seen the remaining sights in the space of the remaining 20 minutes or so. I was very tempted to ask for my money back. So disappointing.

This was such a great tour and I'm so glad we did it!! Our guide patiently said everything in French and English! He was patient and so informed! We asked a lot of questions and he answered every one. I love that this tour wasn't the main sites in the city center. It was perfect and I would absolutely recommend it.

Not great but ok

The group was quite large and everything was in French and English with the result that part of the group were hanging around during the translation. Also because of the size of the group it wasn’t easy to hear everything. I was disappointed that the door didn’t cover that much ground. E.g. had it been conducted in a different way without the problems referred to above I feel we could have been taken to the Cloche tower and the old gate etc
