Take to the heights and discover the city from above!

After five years of construction, the Flèche Saint-Michel is once again open to the public. At 114 meters, it is the fourth-tallest bell tower in France. Adjacent to the basilica of the same name, it overlooks the Saint-Michel district and stands as a testament to the craftsmanship of Bordeaux’s builders. The most adventurous will enjoy the magnificent view of the Port de la Lune from the terrace 47 meters above ground.

The Porte Cailhau, built between 1493 and 1496, is a former defensive structure that has become a ceremonial monument. Standing approximately 35 metres tall, it combines military features such as the portcullis and machicolations with more elegant forms that herald the Renaissance. The new exhibition inside immerses us in the secrets of medieval Bordeaux and offers a panoramic view over the rooftops of Old Bordeaux and the Garonne.

By combining these two visits, you will discover Bordeaux from two complementary perspectives: the Saint-Michel district as seen from its spire, and the quays of the Garonne from the gate of the old ramparts.

Difficult access, numerous steps. Self-guided tour.
